DAVAO CITY — A select group of teachers from Mintal Comprehensive National High School here will be sent to Israel for capacity building training on the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT)-based teaching.

This developed as the Davao City government, led by Mayor Sara Z.  Duterte, and Department of Education (DepEd)-11 signed a memorandum of agreement with Pass It Forward and ORT (Association for Vocational Crafts) Israel for the program dubbed as Excellence in Education: A Lighthouse Project at the  Marco Polo Davao on Wednesday.

The memorandum signing was witnessed by Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Effie Ben Matityau.

In her speech, Mayor Sara said the program will be a big help to the teachers, who will be equipped with the new style of teaching strategies to capacitate their learners.

“We are confident that this initiative will boost the capacities of the teachers of Mintal Comprehensive National High School so that they may teach the students about innovation, science and technology, engineering, arts and mathematics,” she said.

The mayor said the program will benefit not just the teachers of the beneficiary school but also other public high schools in the city.

DepEd Davao City Division Superintendent Maria Ines Asuncion said she hopes the participation of Mintal Comprehensive High School teachers will make the school a center for educational excellence in the region.

After the training, Asuncion said the teachers will cascade the obtained insight and competencies to other public high schools in the whole Davao Region. She said the 10 teacher-beneficiaries will start their training in Israel in November.

“We hope to develop the literacy skills of the teachers and learners so that they can become globally competitive and multi-culturally literate,” she said. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
