SUBANG, Indonesia — Ariana Thea Patrice Dormitorio bowed out of the medal race in the 18th Asian Games cycling competition after crashing in the second lap of the women’s cross-country event at the Khe Bun Hill here on Tuesday.

Dormitorio, who was ranked first among 12 entries, injured her left thigh when she fell in Lap 2 of the five-lap race covering a total of 22.5 kilometers.

“I’m somehow disappointed. Luck was not with me today,” said Dormitorio, who is No. 100 in the world rankings.

China had a 1-2 finish with Yao Bianwa winning the gold medal in one hour, 20 minutes and seven seconds, while Li Hongfeng took the silver with a time of 1:25:56.

Thailand’s Natalie Panyawan clocked 1:26:11 to pocket the bronze medal.

“The Philippine rider was strong and I am lucky to win,” said Yao, who like Dormitorio, is seeing action for the first time in the Asian Games.

Siriluck Warapiang, also from Thailand, registered 1:34:22 for sixth place while Indonesia’s Rohidah Rohidah was seventh (1:36:40).

Indonesia’s Noviana Noviana was joined by Dormitorio, Chinese Taipei’s Peini Chou, Nepal’s Laxmi Magar and Mongolia’s Enkhjin.

Meanwhile, Filipino Niño Surban was scheduled to start for the men’s division on Tuesday afternoon. (Jean Malanum/PNA)
