ILOILO CITY — Expressions of sympathy kept on pouring to the family of an Ilonggo fashion designer, who succumbed to complications Monday night.

Alex G. Soncio, fashion designer and owner of Alta Moda, died at the age of 56 after being in and out of the hospital for months due to chronic kidney disease.

Soncio was known for the unique designs and creations of Alta Moda, a bridal and fashion house based in this city.

Aside from being a fashion designer, he was also the executive director of the Miss Iloilo Dinagyang search for the past seven years.

During his stint, he gave Iloilo national and international beauty titlists, including Bb. Pilipinas titlists Shamcey Supsup, Venus Raj, Rachel Peters and Maxine Medina.

“His pivotal contribution is a benchmark in pageant production and in molding the candidates towards an awareness of relevance in the community. He has touched the lives of so many people, and his generosity and commitment will always be remembered,” said a statement released by the Board of Trustees and members of the lloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. and the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival Committees on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jose Espinosa III said that Soncio was “responsible for elevating the beauty competition to new heights, bringing glory not just to the city but to all Ilonggas”.

“Iloilo City mourns the loss of one of the best supporters of the Dinagyang Festival has ever had,” he said. (Perla Lena/PNA)
