Gov’t work suspended in Ilocos Norte due to persistent rains

LAOAG CITY—Work in government offices was suspended on Friday afternoon due to inclement weather brought about by the storm-enhanced southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”

Although Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos is out of the province, she announced work stoppage around 3:00 p.m.

The Communication and Media Office of the provincial government also confirmed this but said they would keep a skeletal force to monitor the weather.

“Work in private sector is upon the discretion of respective companies,” the governor announced.

She likewise declared suspension of classes in college level—both in public and private schools on Friday afternoon.

Earlier this morning, classes in primary and secondary schools were also suspended.

As of this posting, several government offices in Laoag are already underwater including some residential houses and major thoroughfares in Laoag downtown. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
