‘Gorio’ over Batanes, monsoon rains over Luzon on Saturday: PAGASA

MANILA, July 29 — Stormy weather will be experienced over the Batanes Group of Islands on Saturday as Typhoon Gorio continues to intensify and maintain its course, the state weather bureau, PAGASA, said.

‘Gorio’ was last eyed at 200 km. northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph, heading northwest at 17 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 2 was raised over Batanes, and TCWS no. 1 over the Babuyan Group of Islands where rains and gusty winds will prevail, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon.

Monsoon rains, which could trigger flash floods and landslides, are expected over Ilocos, the Cordilleras, Zambales and Bataan.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds will blow from the southwest over Luzon, and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to occasionally strong coming from the southwest with moderate to occasionally rough seas, PAGASA said. (Ma. Cristina C. Arayata/PNA)
