‘Habagat’ leaves P500-M infra, agri damages in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY – The continuing field validation in the 21 towns and two cities of the province has listed almost PHP500 million in damages to infrastructure and agriculture due to the ill-effects of the southwest monsoon.

The Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council reported Thursday that the damages to flood control projects, roads and bridges, seawall, irrigation canals, small water impounding projects, including tourist spots and buildings , reached a total of PHP407,500,000 and about PHP90.5 million in rice, high value commercial crops, fisheries and livestock as of Aug. 29.

Led by a team from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), relief goods are being distributed to the affected families, which now numbered 14,392 or 63,137 persons.
