Rain, gusty winds threaten Batanes

MANILA, July 29 — Northern Luzon’s Batanes Islands will experience rain with gusty winds, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 24-hour forecast released Saturday afternoon (July 29).

Monsoon rain, which may trigger flash floods and landslides, is expected over Ilocos and Cordillera regions as well as Zambales and Bataan provinces, PAGASA also said.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over rest of both Central Luzon and Cagayan Valley, noted PAGASA.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and rest of the country, PAGASA said.

Southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ is affecting western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, PAGASA said.

PAGASA also located typhoon ‘Gorio’ (international name ‘Nesat’) at 335 km north of Batanes province’s capital Basco municipality as of 3 p.m. Saturday.

‘Gorio’ then packed maximum sustained winds of 145 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 180 kph, noted PAGASA.

According to PAGASA, ‘Gorio’ will likely move northwestwards at 19 kph.

“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over rest of Luzon and western section of the Visayas,” PAGASA continued.

PAGASA said coastal waters in such areas will be moderate to rough.

“Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest with slight to moderate seas,” PAGASA added. (CJT/PNA)
