BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The Philippine National Police (PNP) presented Monday 60 loose firearms of various calibers, which were either surrendered or confiscated during the implementation of “Oplan Katok” here.

Supt. Byron Allatog, Balanga City police chief, said the firearms were calibers .40, .45, 9-mm and shotgun, among others.

He said their operation was prompted by reports of shooting incidents in various parts of the country and in preparation for the 2019 national elections.

“Oplan Katok” is the PNP’s campaign to account for all loose firearms in a given community.

“The loose firearms refer to firearms not registered, altered, lost or stolen, illegally manufactured and with revoked license,” Allatog said.

The presentation of the firearms was held at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga in observance of the National Crime Prevention Month.

Attending the celebration were city officials led by Mayor Francis Garcia.

The mayor and Senior Supt. Marcelo Dayag, Bataan police director, lauded the city police for gathering  the loose firearms. (rnie Esconde/PNA)
