LPA to bring rains over parts of Luzon Monday

MANILA — Parts of northern Luzon will continue to experience rains due to a low pressure area (LPA) spotted near Batanes.

In ts 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was spotted 200 km north of Basco, Batanes.

PAGASA said the LPA is likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 36 hours.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is closely monitoring typhoon “Mangkhut” outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

“Mangkhut” was last spotted 2,745 km east of southern Luzon. It packs maximum sustained winds of up to 130 km. per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km.

The typhoon, moving west southwest at 35 km. per hour, has no direct effect on the country yet.

PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said “Mangkhut” is likely to enter PAR on Wednesday and will traverse the Batanes-Cagayan area on Saturday.

Ilocos provinces, Apayao, Abra, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the LPA.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
