Free wi-fi available soon in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Aug. 1 (PNA) — Free wifi will soon be a made available to students and other internet users in Pangasinan.

Governor Amado Espino III recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Information and Communication (DICT) seeking the establishment of PIPOL KONEK, a free public wi-fi in public places on July 26.

PIPOL KONEK is one of the three flagship programs launched by DICT along with the National Government Portal (NGP), and National Broadband Plan which will serve as data backbone.

DICT’s Free Wifi in Public Places Project seeks to provide free internet access in municipal plazas, public schools, libraries, hospitals, rural health units, police stations, state universities, among others, nationwide.

The project was already initially launched to service 4th to 6th class municipalities of Laoac and Sta. Maria in Pangasinan, as well as the City of Dagupan.

Espino thanked DICT for bringing the project to Pangasinan saying it will benefit students, businessmen, households and other internet users.

During the two-day conference, DICT Assistant Secretary Alan Silor presented the agency’s milestones in raising awareness on efforts in eliminating digital divide to create digital inclusion through TECH4ED, and PIPOL KONEK free public wi-fi project.
