Chinese foreign minister’s PH visit postponed: DFA

MANILA –The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday announced that the scheduled trip of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the Philippines on Sunday was rescheduled at a later date.

DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato said the postponement was mutually agreed by both sides in deference to Filipinos directly affected by Typhoon Ompong, as well, as the Philippine government personnel designated to undertake rescue, recovery, and relief efforts.

Wang Yi was slated to visit Manila on September 16 to 18 to discuss joint exploration between the Philippines and China.

“At this time, the DFA is focused on coordinating offers of international humanitarian assistance through the Philippine Humanitarian Assistance Registry (PHAR) and in extending assistance to OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) stranded in ports around the country,” according to the statement sent by Cato.

“The Philippines and China will continue to work closely together to ensure the success of all future high-level engagements and the sustained advancement of our bilateral cooperation,” it added.

Meanwhile, it stressed that discussions on all levels will continue uninterrupted between both sides. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
