Over 1k people evacuated as ‘Ompong’ batters Bataan

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Some 279 families, consisting of 1,286 individuals, are now in various evacuation centers in Bataan province, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported Saturday.

Governor Albert Garcia, PDRRMO chair, said they have been monitoring disaster response operations in 11 towns and one city as to the effect of heavy rains and winds triggered by Typhoon “Ompong.”

“We continuously coordinate with local government units for reports on flooded areas and their needs,” the governor said.

The evacuees came from Abucay with 46 families; Dinalupihan, 17; Hermosa, 19; Limay, 85; Morong, 7; Orani, 19; Orion, 71; Pilar, 6; and Samal, 9.

Marilyn Tigas, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said there are enough relief goods in case local government units need augmentation for food supply.

Available packed goods include rice, canned goods, noodles and coffee.
