Pangasinan guv declares localized class suspension

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Following the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong in northern Luzon, Governor Amado Espino III issued a memorandum declaring localized suspension of classes on Monday.

Espino, in his memorandum, urged chairpersons of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs) and school administrators to suspend classes in their respective areas of responsibility if they deem it necessary.

He also directed them to conduct damage assessment on the effects of “Ompong” in their localities.

In Dagupan City, Mayor Belen Fernandez announced on her official Facebook page the resumption of classes on Monday.

“This is without prejudice to the schools’ own determination of the suspension of classes should their premises be detrimental to the safety and health of both the students and teachers,” she said.

San Carlos City Mayor Joseres Resuello suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools on Monday upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, as posted on his official Facebook page.

He said this is to give time for the cleaning of the schools and repair of damaged facilities.

Hinihikayat ko po ang lahat na magtulungan para sa mas mabilis at maayos na pagbabalik ng ating mga estudyante sa kanilang paaralan (I urge everybody to help one another for the fast and orderly resumption of classes of our school children),” he said.

Bayambang Mayor Cesar Quiambao also cancelled classes in all levels on Monday, as posted on his official social media account.

Meanwhile, as of 4 p.m. Sunday, the level of water at the San Roque Dam has decreased to 286.42 meters above sea level (masl) from the highest level of 287.81 masl recorded at 12 noon on the same day.

The total spillway gates opening was also reduced from 10 meters to 7 meters at noon Saturday. (Liwayway Yparraguirre/PNA)
