New law creates eight Congressional districts in Cavite

GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed into law Republic Act 11069, or the Act Amending Section I of R.A. 9727, reapportioning the historic Cavite province into eight legislative districts on Sept. 14.

Under the newly signed law, General Trias City will be the Lone 6th District, the 7th District will be composed of Amadeo, Indang, Tanza and Trece Martires City and the 8th District will now comprise Tagaytay City and the municipalities of Alfonso, Bailen (General Emilio Aguinaldo), Maragondon, Magallanes, Mendez, Naic and Ternate.

The new law paves for redistricting of the province’s seven districts to eight, where the 6th District used to comprise General Trias City, Trece Martires City and municipalities of Tanza and Amadeo and the 7th District comprises Tagaytay City and the municipalities of Alfonso, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez-Nunez, Naic and Ternate.

“The new signed law is a welcome development as it would boost further developments and progress to each district,” Cavite 6th District Rep. Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV said in an interview.

Seven Cavite house solons supported RA 11069, namely 1st District Rep. Francis Gerald ‘Boy Blue’A. Abaya, 2nd District (Bacoor) Rep. Strike Revilla, 3rd District (Imus) Rep. Alex “AA”. Advincula, 4th District (Dasmarinas) Rep. Jennifer “Jenny” Barzaga, 5th District Rep. Roy M. Loyola, 6th District Rep. Luis “Jon Jon” A. Ferrer and 7th District Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Following the President’s approval of the House Bill, the new measure still has to be published in the Philippine Gazette or newspaper before it becomes a law.

This means that for next year’s mid-term National and Local elections, Cavite province would be electing eight congressmen and 16 Board Members, where two Board Members are elected per district.

Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla and brother former Governor Jonvic Remulla also backed the new law. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
