Power restored in some parts of Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY — Power in some areas of Ilocos Norte have been restored after typhoon “Ompong” toppled hundreds of electric posts here last weekend.

Noel Andres, Information Education and Communication Officer of the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, said Laoag’s south of the river, Batac City, Sarrat, Vintar and Piddig are now fully energized.

Meanwhile, some parts of Burgos, Bangui, Pinili and Badoc are also being put on while the remaining towns will follow suit.

“Our linemen are working double time to restore power but for now, we can’t guarantee yet how many days more before our current will be back to normal operation in our lateral areas,” Andres said.

When “Ompong” smashed Ilocos Norte early morning Saturday, the INEC management has decided to shut down the power source to secure consumers from further damage to life and property.

Efforts to fully restore power in the entire province are continuing, after primary electric poles were toppled and trees were uprooted due to strong winds. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
