NFA Ilocos Norte joins Kadiwa market caravan

LAOAG CITY — The National Food Authority (NFA) in Ilocos Norte continues to make rice available in every family table.

On Sunday, the rice response delivery team of the NFA joined the ongoing Kadiwa market caravan of the provincial government at the Batac City market to sell rice at low cost.

Pegged at PHP27 per kilo of well-milled rice, Provincial Manager Eleonor Andres reported that about 70 bags of NFA rice were sold out on Sunday, benefiting 715 families in Batac, Paoay and Currimao, who were adversely affected by Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut).

Besides rice, other basic commodities such as cooking oil, sugar and other grocery and food items were also sold to the public, which are cheaper by PHP5-10 compared to the prevailing market price in commercial establishments.

As rice is a staple food for Filipinos, the NFA assured they will continue to provide quality and affordable rice to everyone.

In partnership with the grain retailers association of the province, the NFA is also hosting “Tagpuan Day” in various parts of the province so that residents living in far flung areas could avail of NFA rice.

For Rose Baysac of Barangay Tabug, Batac City, the presence of rolling stores organized by the provincial government provides an alternative for consumers.

“I am thankful the government is doing something to reduce the price of basic commodities. I hope it will be sustained,” she said. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
