Arroyo’s camp optimistic amid low trust grade

MANILA — Despite recording a 19 percent trust rating in the latest Pulse Asia survey, the Office of Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo remains optimistic that her public approval rating is on an “upswing” with the level of distrust diminishing.

Arroyo’s office compared her trust rating as House Speaker to the Pulse Asia survey results when she was still president, wherein she registered a 14-percent approval rating three months before leaving the presidency and ended her term with a 16-percent approval rating in 2010.

This development, according to the Speaker’s office, comes after “years of attacks and political persecution.”

“While Speaker Arroyo has always been dispassionate about surveys, she takes them as a snapshot of people’s sentiment,” the statement issued by Arroyo’s office read issued Tuesday.

“When she was president, she would not let surveys define her work,” it added.

Amid the survey’s results, Arroyo would remain focused and committed “to what needs to be done at the House of Representatives” to carry out the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The survey, held from September 1 to 7, also showed that the House’s approval rating declined by 10 points from 66 percent in June to 56 percent. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
