OFW in Saudi shot dead after allegedly stabbing co-worker, boss

MANILA — An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was confirmed dead by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) late Wednesday after being shot for allegedly stabbing his employer and co-worker.

The agency did not identify the OFW pending notification of kin.

Initial reports from the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said the Filipino allegedly stabbed to death his Saudi manager and a Pakistani co-worker and wounded several others on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened on Farasan Island, 50 kilometers offshore from the southern city of Jizan.

Consul General Edgar Badajos said based on initial reports, the Filipino allegedly first stabbed the Pakistani after an argument, then stabbed his Saudi boss and several other co-workers when they tried to intervene.

Badajos said the firm’s security personnel, a subcontractor of the Saudi Electric Company, immediately responded and shot the OFW.

According to the envoy, a team from the Consulate will be dispatched to Jizan, located more than 600 kilometers from Jeddah, to gather more information about the incident and assist in repatriating the remains of the Filipino. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
