SMB set to bring in new import in Kevin Murphy

MANILA — Following a surprisingly off start, San Miguel Beermen decided to make an import change for its ongoing PBA Governors’ Cup campaign, bringing in Kevin Murphy to replace the injured AZ Reid.

Renowned player agent Sheryl Reyes announced the development on Wednesday on her social media accounts.

Murphy played college ball at Tennessee Tech for four years, scoring 50 points in one game in his senior year, the most by a US NCAA Division 1 player for a single game during the 2012 season.

A second-round pick by Utah Jazz in the 2012 NBA Draft, Murphy, who was part of a three-team trade with Denver that saw him and Andre Iguodala ending up in Golden State Warriors, made a name for himself in the NBA G-League, playing for Salt Lake City, formerly Idaho, and Grand Rapids.

Murphy also had stints in China, Japan, and, more recently, in Croatia before accepting the Beermen call-up.

Once made official, he will suit up for the Beermen when it takes on Magnolia Hotshots on Sunday night. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
