P1.12-M ‘shabu’ seized in Silay City

BACOLOD CITY — Police authorities in Silay City seized some PHP1.120 million worth of shabu during separate operations there in the past 10 days.

The Silay City Police Station’s latest haul on Thursday was recovered from Phar Betila, who was arrested during a buy-bust operation at Matagoy Interior, Barangay Rizal around 4 p.m.

Betila yielded 20 sachets of the prohibited substance with an estimated value of PHP180,000 along with the marked money and drug paraphernalia.

On September 24, Benjie Placido, 42, was busted in Barangay Mambulac after he sold a sachet for PHP500 around 3:05 p.m.

Placido, a newly-identified drug personality, also yielded 12 sachets of shabu, including the buy-bust item, with an estimated value of PHP220,000.

Policemen seized other items from him, including the PHP500 marked money, PHP3,000 cash, a cellular phone, among others.

On September 18, the Silay City Police apprehended Anthony Barbella, 35, in a buy-bust at Bangga Patyo, Barangay 4, and seized PHP320,000 worth of shabu.

High-value target Joseph Garrucho, 19, of Barangay Rizal was collared on Sept. 17 after yielding 14 sachets of shabu estimated to be worth PHP400,000.

He was nabbed around 10:20 p.m. that Monday on Eusebio Street in Barangay 3.

Garrucho belongs to the Aguirre drug group in Silay City.

Police also seized from the suspect PHP1,240 cash, PHP3,500 boodle money, PHP500 marked money, a mobile phone, among others.

In February this year, Garrucho was also arrested in a similar drug operation in Barangay Rizal, where he yielded PHP50,000 worth of shabu. He was released from detention after entering a plea bargain. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
