House minority doesn’t condone Bertiz’ misconduct

MANILA – The House minority bloc led by Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez on Wednesday said it does not condone the misconduct of its member, ACTS-OFW Party-list Rep. Aniceto “John” Bertiz.

Bertiz is in hot water after a CCTV footage of him defying security protocol at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and harassing a security personnel, went viral.

In a press conference, Suarez said the airport incident is a reminder for House members to adhere to the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”

“We recognize Cong. Bertiz as one of the original members of the minority and he has contributed significantly to our group. That said, we do not condone his misconduct,” Suarez said.

Suarez, however, acknowledged Bertiz’s initiative to submit himself to an ethics probe by filing a resolution.

Bertiz filed House Resolution No. 2212, directing the House committee on ethics and privileges to inquire into the incident that transpired on Sept. 29 at the NAIA Terminal 2 involving himself and the airport security personnel, identified as Hamilton Abdul.

The said the committee started its preliminary investigation of the case Wednesday afternoon.

“This is an opportunity for Cong. Bertiz to undergo due process, and for the public to know what truly transpired in the said incident. We trust that a just recommendation will be rendered by the committee,” Suarez said. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
