BALER, Aurora — Seven trucks carrying donated non-food items have arrived in this province to be distributed to victims of Typhoon “Ompong” (Mangkhut).

Amado Elson A. Egargue, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said Wednesday the items came from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 3 (Central Luzon) in support of the disaster relief operations of the provincial government of Aurora.

“Acting Governor Rommel Rico T. Angara requested the said non-food items from the OCD to help the victims of typhoon in this province,” Egargue said.

He said two trucks loaded with non-food items arrived last Sunday while the five others came on Tuesday.

Egargue said the donated items include hundreds of boxes of family and hygiene kits.

“These supplies were allotted for the affected families to be distributed to the Municipal Social Welfare Development Offices in this province,” he added.

The onslaught of Typhoon Ompong in this province last month caused PHP171.11-million worth of damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

PDRRMO data showed that the total amount of damage to agricultural crops reached PHP169 million and PHP798,850 to livestock.

Damage to infrastructure, on the other hand, was placed at PHP1.23 million.

A total of 111 barangays in eight municipalities of Aurora were affected by the typhoon, displacing some 10,985 families or 39,788 individuals. (Jason De Asis/PNA)
