Mocha Uson confirms 2019 run

MANILA – Three days before the start of the filing for certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2019 elections, former Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson on Monday confirmed that she would be running for an elective position in the mid-term polls.

“Oo, tatakbo na ako (Yes, I will run [in the polls]),” Uson told reporters at the Senate.

While she has yet to decide if she will vie for a Senate or House seat, the former Palace official said she is running to become the voice of ordinary Filipinos.

Kung ang ganitong klaseng tao e sinisiraan ng ganyan, paano na yung mga walang boses? Kaya dapat magkaroon po ng boses ang ordinaryong Pilipino (I a person like me is being maligned like that, how about those who have no voice? Ordinary Filipinos should have a voice),” Uson said.

Uson resigned as Assistant secretary at the Presidential Communications Office (PCOO) as a “sacrifice” so that the agency’s budget would be approved.

The approval of the proposed 2019 budget of the PCOO has been deferred by leftist lawmakers at the House due to her absence in the deliberations.

Several lawmakers wanted Uson to appear before Congress to answer criticisms against her.

Uson first broached the idea of a Senate or House run after announcing her resignation last week. (Jose Cielito Reganit/PNA)
