Nancy Binay files COC

MANILA — Re-electionist Senator Maria Lourdes “Nancy” Binay was the second aspirant to file the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on the second day of the filing period at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila Friday.

The lawmaker noted that among her major concerns, once elected, is to promote tourism, saying there is much more to do in the said industry.

“Unang-una chairman tayo (ng)Committee on Tourism. Nakita ko na marami pa dapat ginawa sa Tourism Industry. So isa ‘yun sa ipursue ko kapag tayo at bibigyan ng panibagong pagkakataon na magpili sa ating mga kababayan,” she said.

The reelectionist senator was accompanied by her brother and former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay.

“Una, there’s really a need to assist ‘yung 5th and 6th class municipality pagdating sa kanilang tourism masterplan dahil dun sa devolution under the Local Government Code, ‘yung trabaho na ito napunta sa Local Government Units. Ang alam naman natin kulang sila sa pondo so I think may need na magintervene ang national government ang pagprovide ng pondo,” she said.

With this, Binay, who is running under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), added that she is waiting for the formal endorsement of the National People’s Coalition (NPC).

“Not necessarily a coalition because kumbaga nabanggit din naman ni Senate President Vicente Sotto III that I might be adopted by NPC.Isa ‘yun sa paguusapan,” she said.

“At the moment hinihintay ko pa din pero parang float na ng NPC ang pangalan ko. I’m just wating for the formal endorsement,” the senator added. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
