3 party-list groups submit several sets of nominees

MANILA — Three party-list groups have submitted several sets of nominees during the recently-concluded filing of Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) in connection with the May 2019 mid-term polls.

Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that the Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines (Senior Citizens), Acts-Overseas Filipino Workers Coalition of Organizations (ACTS-OFW) and Murang Kuryente have presented more than one set of nominees.

Under the Senior Citizens party-list, Francisco Datol, Milagros Magsaysay, and Godofredo Arquiza, all of whom claimed to be the president of Senior Citizens, submitted their respective list of nominees. They are also the first nominees on their lists.

On the other hand, ACTS-OFW and Murang Kuryente party-lists both filed two sets of nominees.

The group’s first set of nominees was filed by its president, Ernesto Maceda. Its first nominee is Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III.

The other list of nominees was submitted by another wing of ACTS-OFW, represented by Feliciano Adorna Jr., who is also the first nominee.

For Murang Kuryente, the initial set of nominees was filed by its president, William Juan. Its first nominee is Armando Diaz.

The second list of nominees of Murang Kuryente was submitted by the authorized representative of its president Salvacion Perez. Antonio Paredes is its first nominee.

The Comelec will summon the three party-list groups to hear their respective explanations on the matter.

A total of 185 party-list groups have submitted CONAs during the five-day filing period which ended on October 17. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
