ILOILO CITY — The concreting of the Mina-Jelicuon- Amiroy road in Mina, Iloilo has started following the groundbreaking of the project led by Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on Saturday.

Around PHP63.8 million has been allotted for the concreting of the road, through the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In his speech, Mayor Rey Grabato of Mina stressed the importance of the project in improving the access to transportation of the people and the delivery of their products.

“We hope that the project will be completed on-time,” he said, adding that its completion would immediately provide convenience to the public.

The Mina-Jelicuon-Amiroy road has a length of 3.78 kilometers. The project is being carried out by Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply, Inc.

The rehabilitation works include the concreting of road, such as earthworks, sub-base and base course, concrete pavement, drainage and slope protection structures and road signs, among others. All these works are expected to be completed in April next year.

However, Defensor said that Phase 2 of the project would be implemented next year to complete the road network up to the nearby village of Cabugao, New Lucena, Iloilo.

He said the budget for the project will be PHP21.5 million, also sourced from the CMGP.

Defensor reiterated his desire to ensure the concreting of all the provincial roads in the province before he steps down from office next year.

Iloilo province is a consistent awardee for the DILG’s Seal of Local Good Governance (SGLG), which was why it has availed of the CMGP program.

Just recently, the province obtained the much coveted “seal” for the fourth straight year. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
