1,000 Baguio indigents benefit from medical outreach

BAGUIO CITY — More than 1,000 indigents benefited from an outreach program of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCCI) in Barangay Bakakeng here on Sunday.

Peter Ng, president of FCCCI-Baguio, on Monday said medical, dental and optical services were provided to indigent residents of District 14, which is composed of 10 barangays. Free medicines and eyeglasses were also given to the patients.

“Kasiyahan din namin ang makatulong sa kapuwa, na kahit kami ay abala sa mga negosyo ay naglalaan kami ng oras at pinansyal para sa mga programa sa ating mga mahihirap na kababayan sa lungsod (No matter how busy we are, we also find happiness whenever we are able to help other people by allotting funds to the programs for the poor residents in the city),” Ng said.

He added that the medical outreach is a regular activity of the FCCCI, implemented by the local chapters.

“Alam namin na may mga kababayan tayo na nangangailangan ng tulong medikal kaya patuloy naming ginagawa ang mga programang ganito (We do this regularly because we know that we have many town mates who are in need of medical help,” Ng said, adding that the beneficiaries are hard-up in seeking medical attention.

Ng, who is also a member of the Lions Club, said the outreach activity was participated in by other members of the 13 Lions Clubs in the city that each provided services, doctors and volunteers who attended to the patients.

A certain “Linda”, one of the beneficiaries from Barangay Crystal Cave, said : “Malaking tulong ito sa kagaya kong mahirap na makunsulta ang aking sakit na diabetes, pati ang dalawa kong anak na libreng napabunot ang sirang ngipin at nakapag pa-check-up ng sakit na asthma (This is a big help to the less fortunate like us because I was able to have my diabetes checked. My children also had free tooth extraction and were able to have their asthma checked)”. ( Liza Agoot/PNA)
