Vera to defend ONE heavyweight belt; Folayang vs Khan in co-main event

MANILA — After nearly two years, Brandon Vera’s ONE heavyweight championship will be on the line.

ONE Championship, a Singapore-based mixed martial arts (MMA) tourney, announced on Thursday that Vera will defend his belt on Nov. 23 against promotion newcomer Mauro Cerilli.

The Italian fighter is a veteran in the game, posting a 12-2 record while holding an MMA title, the Cage Warriors heavyweight belt, before signing with ONE.

On the other hand, Vera will be making the second defense of his belt since successfully retaining the title against Hideki Sekine on Dec. 2, 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the same venue where his upcoming title defense, the main event of ONE: Conquest of Champions, will take place.

As earlier announced, the co-main event of the Nov. 23 schedule will have Eduard Folayang taking on Amir Khan for the vacant ONE lightweight title.

Khan, a British professional boxer, was former unified light-welterweight world champion, having held the World Boxing Association title from 2009 to 2012, and the International Boxing Federation title in 2011. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
