Zambo police to deploy 1,600 men for ‘Undas’ duty

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) will  deploy some 1,600 policemen to ensure the peaceful and solemn observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in this city.

Senior Insp. Shellamie Chang, ZCPO information officer, on Monday said they have drafted security plan “Undas 2018” to be implemented from 12 noon of October 31 until November 2.

Chang said the ZCPO will deploy 1,300 police while the remaining 300 are augmentation personnel from the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9).

“The augmentation will enable us to maintain 24/7 security measures, especially in major cemeteries,” Change said.

Chang said traffic will be rerouted in major cemeteries, which are all located within the seven-kilometer radius of this city.

Also included in the traffic rerouting scheme are the cemeteries in Barangays Divisoria and Mercedes, which are already outside the seven-kilometer area.

Parking areas have also been designated in each cemetery as no motorcycles and vehicles are allowed inside the cemeteries.

Zamboanga City has 38 cemeteries, five of which are classified as major burial sites. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr./PNA)
