Legazpi first Bicol LGU to adopt e-Payment System

LEGAZPI CITY — The city government has started using an online payment mode using payers’ credit cards in a bid to lessen the inconvenience of residents transacting with city hall.

Mayor Noel Rosal, in an interview during his Monday press conference, said the online payment project is part of the implementation of Republic Act 8792, the “Electronic Commerce Act of 2000”, which promotes the universal use of electronic transactions in government.

“Using electronic payment and collection systems will bring more efficient and effective payment and collection services for government transactions and will provide the transacting clients additional payment options,” Rosal said.

Legazpi is the first local government unit in the Bicol region to implement the e-Payment System to establish the principles of good governance, transparency and operational efficiency, he added.

“The electronic payment system is an alternative way of paying taxes by our taxpayers to give them a less time-consuming process of transacting business in the government,” Rosal said. (Emmanuel Solis/PNA)
