DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – A PHP336-million “Pamantasan ng Dasmariñas” (city-run university) is projected to rise at the Burol main village in the city’s bid to further strengthen its education program and provide access to quality tertiary education for residents here.
The Pamantasan ng Dasmariñas – College Building 1 is targeted for completion by March 2020 and will offer a collegiate degree to financially constrained residents, according to the Office of City Mayor Elpidio Barzaga Jr.
The public university is expected to open doors of opportunities to city folks to become professionals and self-reliant individuals who will contribute to the progress of the city and nation.
The city, known as melting pot of great minds and exceptional talents, is home to bemedaled athletes such as Veruel Verdadero (fastest man in Palarong Pambansa 2017 and 2018 and Junior Sprinter of the Philippines Team), Jason Jabol (currently the fastest Batang Pinoy runner); Evangeline Caminong (new record holder in high jump, Philippine Team), to name a few.
To produce competitive and world-class athletes in the field of athletics, the city government also earmarked some PHP136 million for the construction of a sports complex with track and field oval, which will be completed by 2019.
Besides holding sporting events, the ‘grandstand’ would also serve as venue for concerts and other outdoor activities.
Construction of both projects started after the groundbreaking rites on Sept. 22, timed during the birthday celebration of Cavite 4th district Representative Jennifer Austria-Barzaga.
These projects sit on a 12.8-hectare land purchased by the city government in 2006 to be the home of infrastructure projects such as the public university, grandstand, track and field oval and the City of Dasmariñas (COD) Arena.
The COD arena, a small version of the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena, has a 4,800-seating capacity, equipped with amenities such as function rooms, a media coverage room, an arcade, kiosks, a ticketing office, changing and storage rooms, bleachers, event area, 343 regular parking slots and 27 bus parking slots.
It will be utilized for big sporting events and other entertainment (indoor and outdoor) events.
The city also targets to complete first phase of another project, the Dasmariñas River Park, aimed at rehabilitating the Imus River and serve as recreational park for the community, in time for the city mayor’s birthday on March 2019. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
