CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The crowns embedded with “sea glasses” from Camiguin province will grace the winners of Miss Earth 2018 in its coronation night on Saturday (November 3), at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The “Sea Glass” crowns were created by the women and children in Camiguin, who are known as “Sea Glass Warriors” and belong to the Baibai Community Foundation (Kumunidad sa Baibai).

Cocoy Bajuyo, the foundation’s president, said Thursday the sea glass-adorned crowns will be donned by the top five of the 42 candidates vying for the title, during the Miss Earth 2018 Coronation Night.

The reigning queen, Karen Ibasco, will be wearing first the Sea Glass Crown and will turn it over to the new queen.

Bajuyo said sea glass-adorned crown is made up of broken glasses, mostly from bottles, collected from the seashores of the province. These glasses have been washed ashore for many decades, creating a jewel-like texture.

He said their organization has more than a hundred members, most of whom consider the creation of sea glass-based jewelry and accessories as their main source of income.

Sea Glass crowns were also used in the province’s own beauty pageant, the “Mutya sa Buahanan,” as part of the the Lanzones Festival events. (Ercel Maandig/PNA)
