PH exhibitors seek buyers in China import expo

MANILA — A total of 57 Filipino exhibitors are taking part in the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, in hopes of striking deals with Chinese buyers.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez is leading the Philippine delegation in the CIIE.

According to Lopez, the Philippines was provided one national pavilion and close to 50 booths.

Thirty-six Philippine exhibitors presented their goods and services in the CIIE Enterprise Zone including 28 food exhibitors, five consumer goods exhibitors, and three from tourism and service outsourcing exhibitors.

Eleven universities as well as 10 partner agencies and companies are also conducting their own exhibitions at the Philippine pavilion.

“The Philippine National Pavilion will showcase the country’s initiatives in the area of trade, investments, and tourism,” DTI said.

During the opening ceremony of the CIIE Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said 172 countries, 3,600 companies, and more than 400,000 Chinese and foreign buyers have participated in the first import expo.

The CIIE only hosts foreign enterprises that are seeking to sell to the Chinese market, and no Chinese manufacturers are permitted to take part in the expo.

“This is a concrete action taken by China to advance and open world economy and support economic globalization. Under the theme of New Era, Shared Future, he first CIIE will help friends from around the world to seize opportunities presented by China in new the era,” Xi said. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
