200 displaced Bulakenyo OFWs receive livelihood assistance

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – At least 200 displaced and distressed Bulakenyo overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received livelihood assistance on Monday from the PHP2-million grant to the province of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 3 (Central Luzon).

Acting Governor Daniel R. Fernando said this is one way of returning the favor to the modern-day heroes who are sacrificing as they work outside the country to support their respective families.

“May mga pagkakataong dumadating na hindi natin inaasahan, may mga nagkakaproblema sa kompanya, biglang napapauwi, ‘pag ganon, nalalagay din sa alanganin yung pamilya dito, kaya kahit papaano nais nating makatulong at salamat sa DOLE dahil hindi sila nagsasawang tumulong sa atin (There are times that unexpected things happen. There were those who suddenly returned home because they encountered problems with their companies. If that is the case, their families are likewise burdened. That’s why we want to help, and we would like to thank the DOLE),” Fernando said.

Elizabeth Alonzo, head of the Provincial Youth, Sports and Public Employment Service Office (PYSPESO), said they identified the recipients and gave them grocery items which they could use to start a “sari-sari” store.

“Packages are provided with basic commodities, rice, noodles, coffee, milk, soap. I hope they can use it for the start-up of their livelihood,” Alonzo said.

Carol Dayrit, a resident from Calumpit town, and wife of a displaced OFW in Dubai, expressed her gratitude for the assistance received by her husband.

“I am so grateful because in the midst of our difficulty, we received help from our government because it is very hard when you’re not prepared,” she said.  (Manny Balbin/PNA)
