CAGAYAN DE ORO–The Dablo family in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental has been chosen as this year’s model Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary for Northern Mindanao, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 10 (DSWD-10).
Rex, the head of the family, derives the family’s main income from fishing; his wife, Genevieve, sells the catch to their neighbors.
The couple’s three children help their parents by sharing household chores among themselves, such as preparing meals, cleaning the house, washing the dishes, and doing the laundry.
DSWD-10 Information Officer Oliver Inodeo on Tuesday said the family was chosen because of their shared passion to improve their living condition amidst difficulties.
“The parents firmly believed that families play a major role in how well children do in school, how well they perform on the job as adults and how they will contribute to society in general, ” Inodeo said of the Dablo couple.
In addition, the DSWD also cited the Dablo family’s active involvement in their community’s social life, regularly participating in civic and church events.
DSWD said the Dablo couple also scored high on gender and development through shared parenting, with each of the couple taking on parental tasks that highlight respect for each other’s capacity.
“The family maintains a God-centered life, demonstrate positive Filipino values, and created an impact to their community,” the DSWD said.
4Ps is a conditional cash transfer program of the government for the poorest of the poor to improve the health, nutrition, and the education of children aged 0-18.
The search for the model 4Ps family aims to empower the program beneficiaries and show the public the progressive impact of the program, create model families who embody strong family ties, demonstrate positive Filipino values and create a positive influence in the community.
