New MPD chief to get rid of rude cops

By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan (PNA

MANILA — The new head of the Manila Police District (MPD) said rude cops will be removed from the service as part of the directive of Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde’s internal cleansing program.

“All personnel should work together and give emphasis as to the meaning of MPD: Magalang at Mapagkakatiwalaan, Protektor ng mga Inaapi at Ordinaryong Mamamayan, Disiplinado at Dedikado sa Sinumpaang Tungkulin (respectful and trustworthy, protector of the oppressed and ordinary citizens, disciplined and dedicated to their sworn duty),” Senior Supt. Vicente Danao Jr. told Manila policemen as he assumed his new post on Thursday.

Danao replaced Chief Supt. Rolando Anduyan as MPD director. Anduyan will take over as Northern Police District director on November 17.

He thanked his family for being his lifetime inspiration and God for guidance.

Present during the event were former MPD director Chief Supt. Jose Napoleon Coronel, who is now Deputy Regional Director for Administration, and some members of the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class 91 and Tanglaw Diwa Class 92.

Danao was previously assigned to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. He was Davao City’s top cop during the term of then mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte.

He was also appointed by Malacañang as commander of the National Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, which is under the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, on April 27 last year.
