MANILA — A total of 264 Grade 5 and Grade 6 pupils of Oranbo Elementary School in Pasig City completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program on Tuesday.

In a statement Wednesday, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said the program’s culminating activity was graced by Eastern Police District (EPD) director, Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba, along with officials of Barangay Oranbo and school principal Analie F. Aquino, in line with the celebration of the National Children’s Month and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.

In his speech, Balba underscored the program’s role in keeping children away from illegal drugs.

“DARE program also help them to be responsible in making decision and choices especially from choosing right and wrong as to identify resistance strategies of avoiding illegal drugs and be a good citizen as well,” Balba told teachers, pupils and parents.

He added that parents and teachers must work hand in hand in guiding the children with proper knowledge and care as they are very vulnerable to many things that can lead them to the use of tobacco, liquor and any harmful substances that can ruin their lives.

The activity aims to create awareness among students on how to prevent the use of illegal drugs.

The DARE program consists of 10 modules, which started July this year, and was conducted by the three certified and dedicated DARE Officers under the District Mobile Force Battalion (DMFB) Community Affairs Section.

“To Resist Drugs and Violence”, is the official slogan of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, which aims to prevent and control illegal drugs users and pushers to lessen crimes. It is also the main goal of EPD District Director to intensify anti-criminality operation alongside its campaign against illegal drugs to have a drug-free EPD with the active support of the community.
