NoCot power utility eyes new substation to meet rising demand

COTABATO CITY — The North Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) is set to construct a new power substation to meet the rising demand for electricity and to prevent future unscheduled power interruptions.

“This is due to the increasing power demand in line with the continuing development and expansion of Kidapawan City as a central commercial hub in the province,” Engr. Godofredo Homez, Cotelco general manager, said in a statement Wednesday.

Homez said the cooperative is rushing the realization of another substation in the city to cope with the growing power demand.

“This includes the immediate compilation of needed documents in bidding and awarding of the winning construction firm,” he said.

Homez stressed that Cotelco is religiously performing its mandate to deliver reliable and adequate service to member-consumers.

Currently, Kidapawan City is host to a 10-megawatt (MW) substation that supplies power to Cotelco’s growing number of consumers.

At one point, Homez said the demand goes as high as 11 MW during peak hours.

He said the installation of the new substation could preempt damage to the existing system and to adequately meet the fast-growing power demand in the city.
