CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Some 220 pet dogs and cats were immunized with anti-rabies, dewormed, spayed, and neutered during the veterinary medical mission at Calasiao Sports Complex here on Wednesday.
Headed by the municipal government of Calasiao, the activity, in partnership with the provincial government of Pangasinan and some private institutions, aims to promote responsible pet ownership, Municipal Veterinarian George Bandon said in an interview on Wednesday.
Bandon said about 200 dogs and cats brought by pet owners in Calasiao and nearby towns were given rabies vaccination, while more than 20 had been operated for spaying or neutering.
“Itinuturo din sa mga pet owners ang tamang pag-aalaga lalo pa at ang focus natin ay ang problema sa rabies (We also teach pet owners proper animal care especially that our focus is on the problem on rabies,” he explained.
Bandon advised pet owners to provide proper animal care, food, and clean environment.
“And they should not forget vaccination (at huwag kalimutan ang vaccination),” he added.
For the dogs and cats that underwent spaying or neutering, Bandon said pets should be given post-surgery medicines.
