GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Patients at the perennially overcrowded South Cotabato Provincial Hospital will get a chance to have some comfort this Christmas season, thanks to a container van that is full of donated supplies from Australia.

Dr. Conrado Brana, provincial hospital chief, in an interview on Wednesday said they received about PHP1 million worth of supplies as an “early Christmas gift” from the Rotary Australia World Community Service.

He said the supplies, which arrived at the Makar wharf here last Monday, were mainly in-kind donations gathered by the group from its members.

The official said donations include 38 hospital beds, 34 mattresses, 11 electric fans, 30 office chairs, and 15 garbage bins.

There were medical consumables, such as rolls of bandages, cotton, kidney basin, gloves, disposal syringes, blood collection vials, wipes, disposal syringes containers, masks, and aprons, he said.

Based on the declaration report, Rotary Australia also donated at least 100 assorted books for kids, hospital curtains and pillows.

Brana said they earlier received a communication from the group that the facility was selected as among the recipients of its charitable program.

“We are very thankful to our donor for also thinking about our patients here,” he said.

He said they will utilize the donated supplies to improve their services and help ease the situation of their patients.

“This is really extra special for the hospital since it is Christmas time,” he added.
