MANILA — Four Filipinos who made contributions to the country’s advancement were urged to “multiply their achievements” after being named honorees of the 2018 The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Award.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar made this call on Wednesday night congratulating the awardees for being models of excellence to the Filipino people.

“Because of these achievements, our only way of recognizing them is with this award, acknowledging them, through our words of praise,” Andanar said during the TOFIL 2018 awarding ceremony at Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City.

Andanar said President Rodrigo R. Duterte himself has expressed hope to see more Filipinos taking after their example.

“It was the hope of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to see in our people images of dignity, honor, and the ideal quality of a good life, which is something that he has dreamed of for all Filipinos”, Andanar said.

“Carry on, for as long as your award can multiply your achievements,” he added.

The awardees of this year’s TOFIL are Fr. Benigno Beltran, Awardee for Community and Humanitarian Service; Presidential Adviser Joey Concepcion, Awardee for Entrepreneurship (MSME); Cong. Raul Del Mar, Awardee for Government and Public Service; and Hilly Ann Roa-Quiaoit, Awardee for Ecological Conservation.

According to its social media page, honorees are chosen based on the strength of their character and integrity; and the impact of their achievements on their field of work, public welfare and national development.

This year’s TOFIL was bannered by the theme, “Leaving a Legacy for a Better Philippines.”

The TOFIL Award was created by the JCI Senate Philippines in 1988 with the goal of giving public recognition to men and women whose exemplary achievements are worthy of emulation.
