Flour firm turns over baking innovation center to TESDA

MANILA — Pilmico Foods Corp. and Aboitiz Foundation officially turned over the Wooden Spoon — a business innovation center — to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) this week.

The innovation center is a renovated facility, which will enhance the students’ opportunities in baking, since Pilmico has provided TESDA with the latest baking equipment.

The center will be used for the skills training and entrepreneurial activities of Bread and Pastry Production NC II and Barista NC II students and graduates.

This can accommodate about 25 trainees per batch, and TESDA targets to have 100 to 150 graduates per year.

In a previous interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), then TESDA chief Guiling Mamondiong said this is the first time that TESDA will have an innovation center focused on baking and pastry production and barista courses.

He added that Pilmico donated the equipment, without asking for anything in return.

TESDA had allotted about PHP10 million for the construction of this center.

Meanwhile, in a statement sent to the PNA on Friday, Aboitiz Foundation chief operations officer Maribeth Marasigan said the foundation will stay true to its mission of empowering budding entrepreneurs, and help shape chefs and baristas, who share the same promise of advancing business and communities.
