Camayora Maute, the father of the terrorist brothers in the city of Marawi, Omar and Abdullah Maute died on Sunday, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

According to BJMP spokesperson Senior Inspector Xavier Solda, the 67-year-old Maute was already in critical condition when he was rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital at around 3 p.m. He was then declared dead on arrival.

“This afternoon, before we rushed him to the hospital, he was experiencing difficulty in breathing after his blood pressure shot up,” Solda said.

Even before he was rushed to the hospital, Cayamora was already experiencing difficulty in his breathing and felt weak.

Cayamora also already had diabetes, hypertension and hepatitis even before his detention but there is no official cause of death yet, Solda added.

Around 7:15 p.m., the body was taken to the Grand Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Maynila to let the other family members offer prayers before it will be immediately transported to Himlayang Liwanag ng Kapayapaan in Norzagaray, Bulacan to bury.

In respect of the Islamic view of death, the dead should not reach the sunrise therefore should be buried before the sunsets or while evening.

On the other hand, in a statement of AFP Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año, they admitted that they haven’t got any formal reports about the death of the Father of Maute and only discovered because of the media.

“This is an unfortunate incident for his family; but more so to the victims of terrorism in Marawi and their relatives who are awaiting justice and expecting that Mr. Cayamora would answer/atone for his involvement in the Marawi rebellion,” said General Año. | (Tina Joyce Laceda – PTV)
