CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Actor and incumbent first district board member Rommel Padilla filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for a congressional post at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office here on Tuesday.

He was accompanied by his son, matinee idol Daniel Padilla, who treated the crowd, including law enforcers and companions of other candidates, with “selfies”.

The elder Padilla, who is running as an independent candidate, will be pitted against incumbent first district Rep. Estrellita Suansing of Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP)-Laban.

They are both supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Meanwhile, another showbiz personality, movie director and former San Antonio town Vice Mayor Jose “Kaka” Balagtas, filed his COC for board member in the fourth district.

Incumbent Rep. Rosanna Vergara, who is running for mayor of this city, hopes to realize the vision of her husband, Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, to build a Metro Cabanatuan when he becomes representative of the district.

Their bid to make this city highly urbanized failed after former Gov. Aurelio Umali, an erstwhile ally, opposed the move. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
