MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ordered on Monday that outdoor advertisers should take down their billboards and tarpaulins as storm signal No. 1 has been raised in Metro Manila due to Typhoon Rosita.
Tarpaulins and advertisement materials along major thoroughfares must also be rolled down as “Rosita” is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains and strong to very strong winds in Northern Luzon and Central Luzon.
“In anticipation of Typhoon Rosita, we directed billboard owners to take down their tarpaulins, especially the big ones, for the safety of both motorists and commuters,” MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim, who is also the concurrent chairperson of the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC), said in a statement.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised signal No. 1 in Metro Manila as “Rosita” continues to threaten the southern Isabela-northern Aurora area.
“We do not want to wait for heavy rains to fall before advertisers begin taking down their billboards to avoid the possible damage they might cause,” MMDRRMC focal person Michael Salalima said.
The MMDA is set to coordinate with MMDRRMC members and disaster management teams of Metro Manila local government units in monitoring the possible adverse effects of the typhoon in the National Capital Region. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
