Additional 50 BA.5, 11 BA.2.12.1 cases reported

The Department of Health (DOH) announced Tuesday, June 28, the detection of 50 additional cases of BA.5 Omicron subvariant, 11 more cases of BA.2.12.1, and two cases of BA.4 in the country.

Of the BA.5 cases, 38 are from Region 6 (Western Visayas), five are from the National Capital Region (NCR), and seven are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs). 

One is fully vaccinated, one is not vaccinated, while the vaccination status of the remaining 48 cases has yet to be verified. The DOH has yet to identify all of their exposure and travel histories, as well as the condition of 49 cases aside from the one patient with mild symptoms. 

The DOH said 41 have already recovered and four are under isolation.

As of June 27, the total number of BA.5 cases has reached 93 according to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire. 

Meanwhile, 11 new cases of the BA.2.12.1 were reported, bringing the total cases of the subvariant in the country to 43.

Seven of the cases are from Western Visayas and four are ROFs. 

Their vaccination status, signs and symptoms, and their exposures and travel histories have yet to be verified. One of the cases is under isolation and the remaining 10 have already recovered from the disease. 

As for the two recovered BA.4 cases, an ROF and an individual from Western Visayas, their exposure and travel histories are still being verified.

One of the cases has been vaccinated while the status of the other patient has not yet been confirmed. One of them has experienced mild symptoms. – gb
