CAMP AGUINALDO, QUEZON CITY – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Cirilito Sobejana assured that the military will continuously support the pursuit of lasting peace and progress in Marawi during the culmination program of Marawi Week of Peace on May 23.

“On behalf of all the members of the AFP I reassure you that we will be your partners for life. We will work closely with all of you and shall promptly address any security concerns or issues that may come our way,” Gen. Sobejana said.

The event was also attended by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chair and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario, Marawi Sultanate League Chairman Sultan Nasser Sampaco, Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Deputy Chief Minister Ali Solaiman, and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Danilo Pamonag.

With the theme: “Peace Starts with Us: Give, Work, and Share,” the Marawi Week of Peace held from May 17 to 23 duly commemorated the unity and heroism demonstrated during the siege.

Local and national officials gladly provided updates on the government’s efforts in rehabilitating the city four years after the crisis.

Gen. Sobejana likewise recognized the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers who fought throughout the battle of Marawi.

“The exceptional gallantry and the selfless dedication to duty of the Filipino soldiers who fought in this battleground will always serve as a bottomless well of inspiration for all of us,” the AFP chief said. (AFP) -jlo
