AFP personnel donate portion of their salary to fight COVID-19

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel are set to donate part of their salary for the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to AFP Spokesperson Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo, the highest ranking official to the lowest ranking soldier have shown support through donating a portion of their salary.

“The percent deduction will be equitable according to rank. General Felimon Santos, Jr. the AFP Chief of Staff will give the biggest contribution of Php10,484 while the lowest ranking soldier who is a Private, an Airman, or an Apprentice Seaman will be donating Php100.”

The AFP expects their donation would amount to more than PhP 16 million.

AFP Spokesperson General Arevalo shares that this initiative is not new to the organization since they have been doing this every time there is a calamity,.

Meanwhile, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. explains that their initiative shows support for the Filipino community. He also ensures that the AFP will continue to protect everyone.

Seeing and feeling their hardships daily from the checkpoints, quarantine centers, and relief distribution sites we man, we commit to them our resolute efforts to win over this pandemic; we are one with them in keeping the faith that together we will hurdle this test of the Filipino’s indomitable spirit.” – Report from Bea Bernardo
