Aftershocks expected after E. Samar quake

MANILA — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said it is expecting aftershocks from the magnitude 5.1 quake that jolted Eastern Samar province on Sunday afternoon.

The quake of tectonic origin struck 44 kilometers northeast of Hernani, Eastern Samar at around 2:24 p.m.

It had a depth of 11 km.

Phivolcs, however, said it is not expecting damages from the earthquake.

Intensity III was felt in Tacloban City, Babatngon, Barugo in Leyte and Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

Intensity II, meanwhile, was reported in Palo, Leyte.
