‘Agaton’ slows down as it begins exit; storm warning signals lifted

MANILA — Storm warning signals were lifted as tropical depression “Agaton” slowed down slightly as it begins to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Wednesday.

In its 5 a.m. update, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Agaton was last observed 175 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa, Palawan with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 65 kph. It is moving west at 25 kph.

Due to the trough of “Agaton” and the tail-end of a cold front, moderate to heavy rains is expected over the Visayas, Bicol Region, Palawan, and Quezon province. Residents are warned of possible flooding and landslides.

PAGASA said the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, the province of Aurora, and Metro Manila will experience isolated rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of northern, southern and Central Luzon;  eastern and western seaboards of Visayas;  and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of northeast monsoon and “Agaton”. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
